Accommodation

If you are from a country on the SBL-ICI list (South Africa excluded), you can apply for an accommodation subsidy. See the information lower down.

Standard accommodation reservations

The IOSOT organizing committee (through the local tourist office at Stellenbosch 360) has negotiated with some guesthouses and hotels in Stellenbosch for a special congress fee. Since the IOSOT congress falls in a busy tourist season, these guest houses and hotels are only willing to keep these prices available until 31 March 2016. You can view the list of establishments with whom this agreement was made, with full information on each, below.

Should you want to make a reservation in one of these guest houses or hotels, the reservation will be processed by Stellenbosch 360, the central tourism office of Stellenbosch. You should send your request to Ms. Jenna Moses (jenna@stellenbosch360.co.za). The following should be mentioned in your e-mail request:

  • Your full name and surname;
  • Your e-mail address;
  • How many persons in your party;
  • The name of your preferred guest house / hotel / self-catering apartment;
  • The date of your arrival;
  • The date of your departure;
  • Special requests (such as separate rooms/beds/etc.).

After finalizing your reservation, your deposit payment will also be facilitated through Stellenbosch 360, and all further queries will be handled by Ms. Moses. Please take note that the mentioned tariffs will only apply until 31 March 2016, whereafter the guest houses / hotels reserve the right to charge you their normal tariffs.

Should you be interested to make your own reservation through one of the online search engines (such as Booking.comTripAdvisor or LekkeSlaap – the last-mentioned is unfortunately only available in Afrikaans), you may want to look for establishments which are within walking distance from the main conference venue, the Faculty of Arts Building, which is on the corner of Merriman and Ryneveld Avenues.

Subsidised accommodation reservations (for attendees from SBL-ICI countries only)

An accommodation subsidy is available for all scholars and postgraduate students from countries mentioned on the SBL-ICI list (excluding South Africa). Anyone interested in applying for this subsidy, should first make a reservation at any of the guest houses / hotels mentioned above for the standard procedure, or may choose any other guest house / hotel in Stellenbosch. (You may consider looking at more affordable choices such as Banghoek Place which is within 15 minutes walking from the main congress venue.) After your reservation had been made and confirmed, you should send an application e-mail to the congress secretary, prof Louis Jonker (lcj@sun.ac.za), mentioning the following information:

  • Your full name and surname;
  • Your e-mail address;
  • The name of your reserved guest house / hotel / self-catering apartment;
  • The date of your arrival;
  • The date of your departure.

If approved, the subsidy will be calculated on the basis of ZAR 400 per night for a maximum of five nights, that is, a total of maximally ZAR 2,000.00. You will receive a confirmation e-mail about your subsidy application, and the funding will then be paid directly into the account of the guest house or hotel where you have made your reservation. TAKE NOTE: The subsidy will only be paid to the establishment after your reservation had been confirmed. Furthermore, the balance of your guest house / hotel account will be your own responsibility to settle.
