Call for papers

Overview

The call for papers is now closed. The information below is for reference purposes only.

The CALL FOR PAPERS for IOSOT2016 and all associated societies and research groups is now open. Proposal submissions will be directed to the organisers of the respective societies and research groups for approval. Slots of (short) papers will generally be 30 minutes (20 minutes paper presentation, and 10 minutes discussion time). Paper proposals may be submitted to a maximum of TWO of the societies/groups, provided that two separate submissions will be made, and different titles/abstracts will be submitted. (It is therefore not allowed to submit the same title/abstract to more than one of the societies/groups.)


Specific information for each track (society/research group)

Please read the information of the relevant track (society/research group) carefully before proceeding to submit your paper proposal.

IOSOT short papers

These short paper sessions will be held from Monday 5 until Friday 9 September 2016. There is no overall theme for the IOSOT short papers and submissions on any HB/OT theme may be made. Papers will be scheduled in thematic sessions.


IOSCS short papers

These short paper sessions will be held from Monday 5 until Tuesday 6 September 2016. There is no overall theme for the IOSCS short papers and submissions on any Septuagint and cognate theme may be made. Papers will be scheduled in thematic sessions.

Additional to a joint session of four invited speakers organized by IOTS and IOSCS, there is also an open invitation to IOSCS and IOTS members to submit paper proposals examining the interface between Septuagint and Targum studies. Papers accepted in that category will be placed in coherent short paper sessions.


IOTS papers

These paper sessions will be held from Monday 5 until Wednesday 7 September 2016. Submissions for the following Targum-related themes are requested, although any proposed topic will be considered on its merits: (i) Descriptive Translation Studies and Targum; (ii) Targum and Rabbinic Literature; (iii) Purity and Holiness; (iv) Targum and Septuagint.

Additional to a joint session of four invited speakers organized by IOTS and IOSCS, there is also an open invitation to IOSCS and IOTS members to submit paper proposals examining the interface between Septuagint and Targum studies. Papers accepted in that category will be placed in coherent short paper sessions.


IOMS papers

These paper sessions will be held on Monday 5 September 2016. There is no overall theme for the IOMS papers and submissions on any Masoretic theme may be made.


ISLP papers

These paper sessions will be held from Tuesday 6 until Wednesday 7 September 2016. There is no overall theme for the ISLP papers and submissions on any Syriac language theme may be made.


SASNES short papers

These short paper sessions will be held from Monday 5 until Tuesday 6 September 2016. There is no overall theme for the SASNES short papers and submissions on any Near Eastern studies theme may be made. Papers will be scheduled in thematic sessions.


Qumran research group invited papers

These paper sessions will be held from Monday 5 until Wednesday 7 September 2016. There will be some invited speakers, but open slots will be available for further submissions. Invited and other speakers should submit their titles and abstracts through the online conference system by selecting “Qumran research group invited papers” in the organisation dropbox. The following general theme applies for the open slots: “The Dead Sea Scrolls: Before and Beyond the Text Types – Contribution of biblical manuscripts to the theory of the origins/development of texts and text types”

The following research groups will accommodate only invited speakers. These invited speakers should take note of the following information:

ProPent invited papers

These paper sessions will be held from Wednesday 7 until Thursday 8 September 2016. No call for papers, since only invited speakers will participate in these sessions. Invited speakers should submit their titles and abstracts through the online conference system by selecting “ProPent invited papers” in the organisation dropbox.


ProPsalms invited papers

These paper sessions will be held from Wednesday 7 until Thursday 8 September 2016. No call for papers, since only invited speakers will participate in these sessions. Invited speakers should submit their titles and abstracts through the CfP system by selecting “ProPsalms invited papers” in the organisation dropbox.


ProProphets invited papers

These paper sessions will be held from Monday 5 until Tuesday 6 September 2016. No call for papers, since only invited speakers will participate in these sessions. Invited speakers should submit their titles and abstracts through the online conference system by selecting “ProProphets invited papers” in the organisation dropbox.


Samaritan studies research group invited papers

These paper sessions will be held from Monday 5 until Tuesday 6 September 2016. No call for papers, since only invited speakers will participate in these sessions. Invited speakers should submit their titles and abstracts through the online conference system by selecting “Samaritan studies research group invited papers” in the organisation dropbox.
